Course Details

The course runs for 8 weeks; each taught session lasts for one and half hours. Each week’s session will include teaching on the principles of mindfulness and meditation with handouts and a practical guided meditation for you to keep and practice at home. The weekly classes will include discussion and support from your teacher and your peers in the group and a cuppa! You will learn four different meditation techniques with guidance and support on how to develop your own practice at home. You will need warm, comfortable clothes to wear and a pen.
This course is rooted in the Rinzai Zen tradition which has a long-established tradition of teaching meditation for health and wellbeing.
This course was designed by Daizan Roshi (Rinzai Zen teacher and founder of Zenways) and is suitable for anyone who wants a non-spiritual, non-religious programme that helps develop stress-proofing and resilience for modern life.
It is taught by Penny, a trained teacher and experienced meditator who has completed her Meditation and Mindfulness Teacher Training with Zenways. She is teaching this course as a Student Teacher and is working under the supervision of an experienced mentor. Penny is committed to developing as a trauma-sensitive mindfulness practitioner and as such may at times modify or adapt the course syllabus.

Is This Course For Me?
You will need to be able to commit 30 minutes every day throughout the 8 weeks to practice the techniques you learn in class. For many people this course is a great introduction to mindfulness and meditation and will get you well on the road to practicing independently. If you would like to have a chat about any aspects of learning mindfulness or meditation before booking please get in touch with me. This course is open to anyone over the age of 18. Please be aware that group mindfulness practice is not usually recommended for anyone with paranoia or schizophrenia or who is actively experiencing traumatic symptoms, who feels mentally unstable or suicidal. If you are experiencing any of these states please contact your GP or visit the website of the Scottish Association for Mental Health  https://www.samh.org.uk for further advice and information.
